  • About Cara, Student Intern

I’m Cara, a former social worker/healthcare administrator/interior stylist who always dreamed of becoming a counselor after graduating from Texas A&M. Still, life seemed to have a different path. Then COVID happened, and God opened the door and removed all the barriers.

Now in my 50s, I am a master’s level counseling student at Lamar University and currently completing my practicum and internship under the supervision and guidance of Christy Birgen. My goal is to become a licensed marriage and family therapist, and my passion is relationships, both with yourself and others.

I am proof positive that it is never too late to achieve your dreams when you are willing to put in the hard work and have God working through you.

Cara has completed her internship with us is graduating from her Counseling Program! She is currently on break as she takes her exam and pursues licensing as a post-graduate. We are happy to announce that she is returning to our practice in the New Year as an LMFT Associate and will be accepting new clients then. If you would like to be added to Cara’s waitlist, please include that in the message part of the contact form. Thank you!

    Three Facts About Me

    Change is possible

As I begin this next chapter in my life, I am filled with hope, knowledge, and a deep belief that we can achieve a life filled with love, acceptance, and peace. I know from personal experience that change is possible when you are willing to work. It is not easy, but therapy is transformational.

I've been a helper my whole life

For as long as I can remember, people have always felt comfortable and safe sharing their problems with me. It is a privilege to connect with others more profoundly and genuinely. I have a natural ability to see the bigger picture, uncover hidden patterns, and find creative and personalized approaches to concerns. I am excited and passionate about helping clients explore what might be getting in their way and helping them find their path forward.

    Married for almost 27 years

I have been blessed with a wonderful husband and partner. I have two stepchildren and four grandchildren. I am also a dedicated dog mom, animal lover, and knowledge seeker who finds serenity at the beach.
