Lasting Connection®: A program for Premarital, Married, and Committed Couples

The Lasting Connection® workshop is a couple education program co-developed by Dr. Debi Gilmore, Certified EFT Supervisor, and Dr. Rebecca Jorgensen, Certified EFT Supervisor and Trainer.

The Lasting Connection® workshop will help you take the guesswork out of romantic relationships. It will teach you how to confidently communicate your needs, plan your future, solve problems, share your feelings, repair hurts and get the relationship skills that actually work to make a difference to prepare relationships to have a lifetime of love.

This workshop is designed to build on strengths, prevent relational conflict and utilize the power of attachment to lay a foundation for relationship improvement and deepening the connection bond across the lifespan. Building A Lasting Connection facilitates the education couples need to be able to process emotion together through the Connection System™ – this revolutionary experiential tool supports couples as they seek to build a structured, safe, transparent, and empathy-filled relationship.

    What will we learn?

Based on the theory of attachment, emotional responsiveness, and emotionally focused therapy (EFT), the Building a Lasting Connection™ Workshop, guides couples through five concepts for creating a strong and securely bonded relationship, helps couples of all relationship stages learn how to effectively interact in intimate relationships and helps couples identify negative patterns of communication and teaches how to have healthy communication.

At the end of this workshop, you and your partner will:

    • Achieve a greater understanding of what “romantic love” is and how to maintain and grow it.
    • Learn more effective skills of communication and the art of listening.
    • Navigate differences and solve problems together
    • Learn the art of sexual intimacy and explore new ways to view sexuality from your partner’s perspective.
    • Begin the process of developing and implementing new rituals and traditions to enrich your marital and familial relationships.

    * This workshop is contraindicated for couples experiencing active abuse, addictions and affairs.  If you are experiencing any of these contraindications, please contact us to set up private therapy sessions.

What makes Building A Lasting Connection™ stand out?

The Lasting Connection™ workshop is structured around a relationship pyramid that has five sections including attachment, communication, managing conflict, physical intimacy, and shared goals.  Each section builds upon the last, so you and your partner can conceptualize your relationship as a process of building, growing, evolving, developing and rising up in a collaborative manner.

The workshop consists of large group psychoeducation, private couples exercises, and semi-private experiential activities. You will be fully supported by the facilitator and facilitator helpers.

    Overview

Session One – Attachment: We will spend time defining love and the role of love in secure attachment, discuss the different types of attachment and how each affects your relationship, and how early experiences in relationships and life impact how you respond to your partner.

Session Two – Communication: In this session, we will talk about ways couples communicate with each other and how they listen to each other.  Couples will learn how to use the Lasting Connections™ mat and will engage in learning how to communicate in a way that draws your closer.

Session Three – Managing Differences: We will learn how the brain works in regards to mirror neurons and the limbic system, and examine negative patterns of interactions that could potentially get you and your partner caught up in conflict. Couples will then use side two of the Lasting Connections™ mat to learn how to move from conflict to connection.

Session Four – Physical Connection: In this session, we will learn about the power of touch and the connection between sex and relationship happiness, the three types of sex and the role that a safe, secure emotional connection plays in fostering physical closeness, and how communication plays a critical role in enhancing intimacy in every form, in an out of the bedroom.

Session Five – Shared Goals: We end by bringing all that you’ve learned into a discussion about mutual, shared goals. You and your partner will learn the five stops on the map to a lasting relationship: getting to know you, emotional connection, trust, commitment, and physical. Lastly, you will identify and agree together on adopting daily rituals and actions that build on the connection you’ve created with your sweetheart throughout the workshop.

We were able take our negative words/actions and turn them into positives after discovering how our negative word/actions were affecting our spouses. The mat works to dig up hidden negative words/actions and change them into positive ones that do not hurt your spouse.
