• About Mason Jolink, Student Counselor Intern

Supervised by Christina Birgen, LPC-S, LMFT-S

Hi! My name is Mason Jolink. I am a Graduate Student and an Intern at Soulfully Connected Counseling. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Houston Christian University, where I am continuing to grow in my understanding of emotional, mental, and spiritual health. As a counseling student, I receive ongoing supervision to support the care I provide under the guidance of Christy Birgen, M.A., LPC-S, LMFT-S.

I decided to pursue a career in counseling through my own college experience, which was filled with transition and change, and through recognizing the value of having someone who truly listens and walks alongside you. I believe counseling can feel a lot like going on a walk with a trusted person—someone who desires to know you deeply while supporting and encouraging you along the way.

I hope to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and truly heard. As an intern, I value sitting with clients, hearing their stories, and exploring the ways they can experience healing and hope in their everyday lives.

My approach is grounded in my relationship with Jesus and my faith in Scripture, which shapes the way I see and care for others. I believe that seeing and loving people in the way that our Father does is integral to a healthy and effective therapeutic relationship. In that, my approach is warm, relational, and rooted in a desire to help clients feel understood. I also draw from person-centered and cognitive-behavioral approaches, helping clients grow in self-awareness and better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

I especially enjoy working with women of all ages, individuals navigating seasons of transition, and couples who are dating, engaged, or married. I also enjoy working with adolescents and have experience supporting middle and high school students.

Outside of the counseling room, I love staying active—whether that’s at the gym or spending time outdoors—and I enjoy visiting coffee shops to read (usually historical or realistic fiction) or catch up with a friend.

It would be my joy to walk alongside you in whatever season of life you find yourself in.
