Supervised by Christina Birgen, LPC-S, LMFT-S
Hello! My name is Stephanie Sheffield. I am a Graduate Student and Intern at SoulFully Connected Counseling. I am in the Marriage, Couples and Family Counseling Program at Lamar University. My clinical supervisor is Christy Birgen, M.A., LPC-S, LMFT-S.
I was drawn to counseling a few years ago after spending a season of my life learning about mental health. The books I was reading, the podcasts I listened to, and my own experiences all seemed to point me in this direction. I loved the idea of being able to walk alongside people who are seeking to improve their mental health and relationships. As an intern, I am motivated by seeing people make changes and utilize new ways of communicating and thinking. Spiritually, I see the ways God utilizes therapy to move hearts. I find the work deeply fulfilling.
My approach to counseling is grounded in the belief that healing and growth happen through safe, meaningful connection. I work to create a warm, supportive space where clients feel comfortable showing up as they are, without pressure, judgment, or having it all figured out. I’m drawn to approaches that help people better understand themselves and their relationships, including relational and attachment-based work, cognitive-behavioral strategies, and family systems perspectives. I am also continuing to learn more about Emotionally Focused Therapy, which has deepened my appreciation for the power of emotional safety and connection in relationships. I believe that as clients gain insight into their emotions, patterns, and core beliefs, they can begin to experience greater clarity, freedom, and healing. My role is to walk alongside clients with curiosity and care as they move toward deeper connection, resilience, and lasting growth.
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy Aggie sports, staying active through running, and spending time with my family and friends. Reaching out for counseling can feel like a big step, so if you’re curious or simply want to learn more, you’re welcome to contact us.
